The PANSW congratulates former Deputy Commissioner Mal Lanyon APM on his appointment as Commissioner of Police.
During a distinguished career in policing spanning more than three decades, he has steered the organisation as the head of the State Crime Command. Mr Lanyon was appointed to the role of Deputy Commissioner in 2019 and has led the organisation in both Corporate Services and Field Operations.
His leadership capacity has been demonstrated in his work with other emergency services agencies, where he led the flood recovery efforts in Northern NSW in 2022 as Recovery Coordinator before taking on the role of CEO of the NSW Reconstructive Authority in 2024.
“After an exhaustive selection process, we believe that the NSW Government has chosen a candidate with an extensive background in both operational and corporate policing to lead the NSWPF into the future,” PANSW President Kevin Morton said.
“The Premier has today appointed a strong leader, and along with his team of deputies, we believe it’s a group to lead us through the current challenges we see facing the NSW Police.”
"We look forward to working with the newly appointed Commissioner to confront the operational challenges facing our members and to ensure recruitment, retention, and the reduction of crime remain priorities.”
