EXPRESSIONS OF INTEREST CALLED FOR PANSW/GRNSW PTSD ASSISTANCE ANIMAL PROGRAM

PANSW SERVING AND ASSOCIATE MEMBERS

In 2022, The Police Association of NSW and the greyhound industry partnered to improve the mental health and well-being of police officers in this state.

As part of a partnership between the Police Association of NSW, Greyhounds Australasia, Greyhound Racing NSW and Greyhounds As Pets, Police Association of NSW members, both current and retired, will receive access to a personalised adoption matching system - matching greyhounds in need of a new home with police families across the state.

Today, we move into the second phase of that program and are calling for Expressions of Interest for members to be permanently paired with a fully trained PTSD Assistance Greyhound. These identified and highly trained dogs will be matched to a member and specifically trained to meet the member's needs and diagnosis.

As part of the process, direct matching and training with the member and the Greyhound will be undertaken. The costs for this are all covered by the scheme.

SELECTION CRITERIA

- A current or former member of the NSW Police Association who has been diagnosed with PTSD or other work-related psychological injury.
- That member believes that an assistance animal of this kind could assist in the treatment of that member's injury.

Any member who believes they will benefit from the scheme can email us here with their name, former or current registered number and best contact details.

Please share this post to let any former officers who may not be aware of them know all about it. Let's ensure this great new option is available to our current and retired members as they recover from injury.
