SYDNEY, Feb 16 AAP - Legislation aimed at tackling gun crime in Sydney won’t crack down on crime families, the NSW Opposition says.
Under proposed changes introduced to state parliament this week, people who fire at a dwelling as part of organised criminal activity will face a maximum jail term of 16 years.
Anyone who directs the activities of a criminal enterprise will face a maximum of 15 years behind bars, while directing the activity of a criminal group will attract a maximum jail term of 10 years.

SYDNEY, Feb 14 AAP - NSW police will take over security on trains, buses and ferries under a state government proposal to create a new Police Transport Command.
The move will also slash transit officer numbers to just 150.
Under the three-year plan, announced by Premier Barry O’Farrell on Tuesday, the new command of 610 officers will take over security for the entire public transport system.

SYDNEY, Feb 8 AAP - The NSW opposition wants tough anti-bikie laws introduced after a man drew a gun on two men with links to the Hells Angels during a street fight in Parramatta.
Police said the 31-year-old man was walking along Phillip St on Tuesday afternoon when he crossed paths with a Hells Angels member and an associate.
It’s alleged an argument broke out and the man produced a pistol, which he fired at one of the bikies, but the firearm did not discharge.

Four men have been charged after a policeman was allegedly grabbed in a headlock and bashed in Sydney overnight.
Police were called to a hotel on Oxford Street in Darlinghurst at around 1.50am (AEDT) on Sunday, following reports of a brawl.
While on their way to the scuffle, a group of men allegedly confronted the officers and one of the men charged at them, police allege.

SYDNEY, Feb 2 AAP - NSW Police are waiting on a response from the DPP after requesting it appeal Sydney magistrate Pat O’Shane’s decision to throw out a case in which a paramedic was assaulted by a patient.
Ms O’Shane last month suggested that ambulance officer Christopher Martin didn’t like “blacks” before dismissing charges against his alleged assailant.

SYDNEY, Jan 29 AAP - A proposal to ban people with tattoos from joining the NSW police force is absurd, the state opposition says.
Under a proposal being drafted for Commissioner Andrew Scipione, prospective police recruits with tattoos would be knocked back and current officers with tattoos would have to conceal them.
